In enhancement of Kuwait University’s role in providing a sustainable healthy environment, and through joint cooperation between the Security and Safety Department at Kuwait University and the Health Promotion Department at the Ministry of Health, Kuwait University organized an event on the occasion of World Mental Health Day, held in the lobby of the College of Science at Sabah Al-Salem University City.
For her part, Director of the Health Promotion Department at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Abeer Al-Bahouh, said: “We are honored to participate today at the College of Science in celebration of World Mental Health Day, which falls on October 10 of each year,” and referred to this year’s theme, “Mental health in a changing world: responding to crises and emergencies,” confirming the department’s readiness to present all matters related to psychological changes resulting from crises and emergencies, such as the recent COVID-19 crisis. She also thanked Kuwait University for hosting this event.
For his part, Director of the Security and Safety Department at Kuwait University, Mr. Yousef Al-Khamees, expressed his interest in holding this event on World Mental Health Day, stemming from Kuwait University’s keenness to raise health awareness about the psychological aspect, to provide a proper academic environment and enhance community partnership. He affirmed his commitment to implementing health sustainability in line with the strategy of Sabah Al-Salem University City as a healthy city.
The event included awareness booths from participating entities, including the Ministry of Health, Kuwait University, and the Kuwait Society for Smoking and Cancer Prevention, to raise students’ awareness of mental and physical health. These included an obesity awareness booth, a booth dedicated to raising awareness about the harms of smoking, as well as a booth from Kuwait University Clinic.
